Progressive.com Takes Top Honors in WMA WebAward Competition

Named Best Insurance Site
By Web Marketing Association

MAYFIELD VILLLAGE, OHIO, October 1, 2002 Progressive.com, the Web site of Progressive Insurance (NYSE:PGR), has been named Best Insurance Website in the Web Marketing Associations (WMA) 2002 WebAward Competition based on an expert panels review of criteria including innovation, navigation, interactivity, content, ease of use and usefulness to target audience. More than 1,300 sites were judged in the competition.

Last year, progressive.com received a Standard of Excellence WebAward.

The WMA, founded in 1997, helps to set a high standard for Internet marketing and corporate Web development on the World Wide Web and is made up of Internet marketing, advertising, PR and design professionals from around the country. The WebAward program recognizes the achievement of Web professionals who create and maintain outstanding corporate sites.

Toby Alfred, site manager, progressive.com, said: We are honored to receive the Best of Industry award from the WMA. They understand Web sites and have seen the best of the best. To be selected to be part of that elite group is a thrill.

Auto insurance can be complex and difficult to understand, so weve worked hard to make progressive.com the site all consumers can use to better understand and manage their auto insurance, said Alfred.

Consumers can also use the site to get comparison rates and save money on their auto insurance, even if its not with us. Progressive.coms home page features a rate ticker that displays an up-to-the-minute sampling of comparison rates provided to consumers across the country using Progressives online service. Progressive.com was the first auto insurance Web site to offer the service that helps consumers better understand the range of rates available to them from leading companies.

Alfred said: The spread in rates available from different companies represents a clear opportunity for consumers to
save money on auto insurance. The rate ticker gives visitors
an opportunity to see just how much rates can vary so theyll get inspired to shop around.

Content like the rate ticker is one reason progressive.com was awarded the Best Insurance Website designation by the WMA and why the site has also been named #1 Insurance Carrier Web site six times in a row by Gomez, Inc., the Internet quality measurement firm. Gomez has also ranked the site number one in the Ease of Use category four consecutive times, Best Site for Auto Buyers five consecutive times and, in the most recent rating period, the site was ranked number one in Relationship Services.

The Progressive group of insurance companies, in business since 1937, ranks fourth in the nation for auto insurance and provides drivers with competitive rates and 24/7, in-person
service. The companies offer insurance by phone at 1-800-PROGRESSIVE, online at progressive.com and through more than 30,000 independent insurance agencies. The Progressive Corporation, the holding company, has headquarters in Mayfield Village, Ohio. More information can be found at progressive.com.
