Many, if not most, of us participate in sports activities, as individuals, or as a member of a team or other organized sporting event. Not pleasant to contemplate, but accidents and injuries do happen. Medical procedures and therapy practices are becoming increasingly sophisticated and are more capable than ever before of helping us recover from such injuries. More severe accidents do also happen, leading to loss of life, or just loss of limb or other faculty. Such events leave a personal loss, and often a financial burden. These real or potential losses may be partially insured by our universal healthcare or other insurance coverages.

Organized sports, and individuals, have recognized these possibilities and are increasingly purchasing insurance for health and recovery costs beyond which the healthcare system covers.
