Underwriting: Decision Support Systems and Tools

In today’s market, the need to effectively apply underwriting skills has never been greater. Join your colleagues to see how leading organizations are using technology to make the most out of scarce underwriting resources at Insurance-Canada’s “Improving Underwriting: Decision Support Systems and Tools” seminar on June 21, 2005.

Regardless of price competition, senior insurance executives are less willing to give way on underwriting quality than in past soft market cycles. As a result, underwriters are being pushed to apply the same quality disciplines in shorter time frames. Technology and process change are providing solutions.

While automated applications can handle routine commodity products, risk selection and pricing intelligence must still be applied at the appropriate points. Web based applications which can intelligently focus skilled underwriting decision making are offering advantages in this environment.

For larger commercial risks, there is need for greater information on exposures for both property and casualty coverages. For example, requirements for geographic information as well as proximate risks are growing. Sophisticated on-line data sources are increasingly necessary.

For brokers with underwriting authority, real-time collaboration tools are more important than ever to preserve discipline throughout the distribution chain.

Data quality and granularity are key elements in capturing and storing information. There has to be assurance of accuracy as well as the ability to manipulate information at the most atomic level. Today’s data management tools are supplying the requisite base.

All of the technology must come together in support of the skilled underwriter, who makes the appropriate risk selection and pricing decisions. At Insurance-Canada’s “Underwriting: Decision Support Systems and Tools” seminar, technology savvy underwriters and leading information technology suppliers will discuss the current state of automated decision support tools which are creating sustainable value for insurers and intermediaries.

Register today for "Underwriting: Decision Support Systems and Tools". Your investment of a half-day will pay for itself with improved knowledge and tools to address one of the most overwhelming issues facing insurance professionals.
