Trucking Insurance CTA Launches Study on Roots and Solutions to Cargo Crime Problem April 8, 2010 - (Ottawa, ON) - The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) working with the provincial trucking associations, law enforcement and representatives from the insurance industry announced today the launch of a study to examine cargo crime activity in Canada and explore solutions to tackle this problem. “The purpose of this study is to identify the trends in cargo crime across the country, identify best practices in combating cargo crime, and develop an action plan for the private and public sector to address this important issue,” said CTA CEO David Bradley. CTA has discovered that although there is much activity within the law enforcement, insurance and carrier communities towards addressing the problem of cargo crime, efforts are not coordinated; this lack of coordination has prevented these actions from succeeding in creating a national impetus and strategy to effectively deal with the problem of cargo crime. “This study will be the first of its kind in Canada and will provide CTA with an action roadmap to address cargo crime,” added CTA CEO David Bradley. “There appears to be much momentum within the carrier, insurance and law enforcement communities to deal with this issue. The goal of this study is to focus these efforts in one direction by consulting with stakeholders and recording their recommendations on what needs to be done.” CTA will be utilizing Lansdowne Technologies Inc. to coordinate the study. Over the last 34 years, Lansdowne Technologies has gained extensive experience in the area of security strategies, the preparation of public safety and security policies, programs and plans. The study will involve a literature review and interviews with stakeholders concerned with this issue. The study will be completed by the summer of 2010 and the results will be discussed at a CTA workshop on cargo crime held on October 5th in Toronto. CTA would like to thank its provincial association partners for assisting in the funding of this project along with Team Canada members: Markel Insurance Company of Canada, Marsh Canada Limited, TransCore Link Logistics, and Zurich Canada.
