Marshall & Swift/Boeckh to Add "Green" Building Section to Historic Building Cost Manual

Los Angeles - July 1, 2009 - Marshall & Swift announces a significant addition to its flagship Marshall Valuation Service (MVS) cost manual. In September, 2009 the MVS is "going Green" with all new green building costs for real estate, insurance and appraisal users.

The MVS was first published in 1932 and is the primary commercial building cost source used by appraisers, insurance loss control and claims and real estate construction professionals throughout North America.

Peter Wells, President, MSB (Marshall & Swift/Boeckh) stated, "This expansion of the MVS accommodates the rapid growth in ‘Green Building’ construction initiatives across the nation. The new sections of ‘Green’ costs will be an important valuation source our customers will rely on for planning, estimating and appraisal reporting."

The new MVS Green section will assist those who seek to account for new, environmentally-conscious features in replacement cost estimates. The new section of the cost manual will include new Unit in Place costs for building features that meet the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System and Energy Star standards, among others.

It is an excellent resource for real estate appraisers and insurance companies as well as facing green construction concerns. Items cover alternative energy, water conservation, renewable and low-emitting materials. Green Costs also include add-on components, adjustments for new construction and complete retrofit costs (which includes removal and replacement with the new green item).

Green building products and construction techniques are becoming the norm and the variation in their costs continue to evolve. Simply getting work certified is expensive and too often missed without programs like this. By aiding real estate and insurance professionals in the identification and cost of Green elements, the MVS Green Building Section will help provide a unique benchmark for Green building. The MVS will be continually updated to reflect emerging Green regulatory compliance affecting hard and soft costs of construction.
