CIAB Survey Shows Group Health Rates Rising Amid Uncertainty Over Economy, Health Care Reform Efforts.
WASHINGTON, D.C., Dec. 16, 2009 - As the health care reform debate continues in Congress, employee benefits consultants report increases in rates for group medical insurance in the U.S. market. According to the November Employee Benefits Market Survey by The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers, small, medium and large employers continue to experience group medical coverage rate increases and are shifting some costs to employees through higher deductibles and co-pays and increased employee shares of premium costs.

Number of physicians in Canada up 8% over five years: CIHI.
November 26, 2009 - The number of practising physicians in Canada increased at a faster rate than the population over the past five years, according to a new study released today by the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI). The study, Supply, Migration and Distribution of Canadian Physicians, 2008, shows that between 2004 and 2008, the number of active physicians in Canada grew from 60,612 to 65,440, representing an 8.0% increase across the country. In comparison, the Canadian population grew by 4.3% over the same time period.

(Boston, MA. - December 2009) In DALBAR's most recent Life Insurance and Annuity Rankings and Trending report, New York Life and AXA Equitable earned the top two places in the consumer rankings with an "Excellent" designation in the third quarter.
