More than Half of Consumers are Considering Switching Insurance Providers Next Time they Purchase a Policy, Accenture Survey Finds.
LONDON; April 13, 2010 - More than half (53 percent) of consumers are considering switching to a new insurance provider over the next 12 months and a rapidly growing number plan to buy insurance online, according to findings of an Accenture survey. Survey participants included more than 3,500 consumers in Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.

TORONTO, April 13 2010 - Today, Kanetix(R), Canada's online marketplace for insurance quotes and mortgage rates, released the results of its quarterly review of auto insurance in Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. Rates quoted dropped slightly in Alberta and Quebec but increased by almost 12 per cent in Ontario in Q1 2010 compared to Q1 2009.
USA Property/Casualty Insurance Industry's Full-Year 2009 Results Show Strong but Incomplete Recovery From Recession and Financial Crisis : I.I.I.
JERSEY CITY, N.J., April 15, 2010 - Private U.S. property/casualty insurers' net income after taxes rose to $28.3 billion in 2009 from $3 billion the year before. Insurers' overall profitability as measured by their rate of return on average policyholders' surplus (or statutory net worth) increased to 5.8 percent last year from 0.6 percent in 2008. But insurers' recovery from the recession and financial crisis remained incomplete, with their $28.3 billion in net income for 2009 being less than half of their $62.5 billion in net income for 2007. Similarly, insurers' 5.8 percent overall rate of return for last year was less than half of their 12.4 percent rate of return for 2007.

April 8, 2010 - (Ottawa, ON) - The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) working with the provincial trucking associations, law enforcement and representatives from the insurance industry announced today the launch of a study to examine cargo crime activity in Canada and explore solutions to tackle this problem.

NEW YORK, March 31, 2010 - They say that lightning never strikes in the same place twice, but for insurers it strikes hundreds of thousands of times annually, causing millions of dollars in damages. In fact, the average cost of homeowners claims for damage due to lightning strikes has increased significantly over the last five years, according to the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.).

The green vibrancy of Spring takes on a different tone when bad news arrives. A family member has been dealing wiht health issues for a month. More tests late last week pointed to a nore dire prognosis than any of us had anticipated. Further tests may brighten the picture somewhat, but the Spring colours are slightly more sombre for us this week.
