Today, insurance and personal skills are much in demand. Some predict a shortage; others are focusing on solving that problem.

The insurance community faces unrelenting pressures on costs, increasing service expectations from customers, demands for more sophisticated products and services, new requirements for distributors and insurers, and the introduction of new technologies and systems. None of this will evolve without good people - leadership, management, technical and personal skills are all needed - more than ever.

Technology is increasingly important in supporting new, flexible relationship structures. Information on claims, underwriting, distribution, and marketing are no longer confined to pockets of organizations. Tools such as Internet based communication, cross-organizational integrated processes, and advanced Relationship Management systems offer unparalleled access to information and transactions by organizations, their business partners, their customers, and their competitors. The leaders are those who best distill quality information, and make winning business decisions to keep pace with market opportunities. Good people with good skills are essential prerequisites to success. Here too, through knowledge management technologies, like education (e-learning, just-in-time education, distance learning, mentoring) organizations are seeking to enhance their competitive positioning.

This section from Insurance-Canada.ca will note some of the processes, from job-hunting and posting to skills enhancement, which are being developed. Many of these will use in some manner one or more Internet, computer or communications based technologies.
