SIMAC's President and CEO, Gloria Rajkumar, Wins RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur of the Year Award

November 30, 2011 - RICHMOND HILL - At a gala ceremony in Toronto on November 28, Gloria Rajkumar, President and CEO of SIMAC Canada Inc., was presented the prestigious RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Award in the Momentum Category. Gloria was among the 18 finalists from across Canada representing a diverse and impressive range of successful women-owned businesses.

This year, more than 3,000 women were nominated in the six categories. The judging panel reviewed more than 150 of those nominations and further narrowed the choices down to three finalists for each category – one from the east, one from central Canada and one from western Canada.

The Momentum category recognizes an entrepreneur who has overcome obstacles and capitalized on opportunities to deliver more than 10% growth year-over-year for more than three years. Through expanded management, empowered employees and demonstrated excellence, this entrepreneur has created a flexible and responsive business that is able to adapt to changing market environments and exploit opportunities for continued growth.

"I am so honoured and proud to have won this award," Ms. Rajkumar said. "I couldn't have achieved this level of success without the love and support of my family. My mother has been an incredible source of inspiration and strength for me, and my son Daniel inspires me every day. I also could not have done this without my incredible team at SIMAC, who work tirelessly every day to provide our customers with the best possible service and highest quality of work."

In a prepared statement Prime Minister Stephen Harper said, "tonight you have gathered to honour the achievements of those women who have demonstrated leadership, vision, and determination in pursuit of business excellence. I would like to congratulate all of this year's award recipients: you can take pride in the valuable contributions you have made to Canada's prosperity and in serving as role models for the next generation of women business leaders."

Ms. Rajkumar was also a finalist in the 2011 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in the Business Services category. Ms. Rajkumar and her company, SIMAC Canada Inc., have received numerous awards and recognition for business excellence and growth. Earlier this year SIMAC placed #46 in the 23rd annual PROFIT 200 ranking of Canada's Fastest-Growing Companies by PROFIT Magazine.

SIMAC (Superior Independent Medical Assessment Centres) provides independent medical assessments to insurers, employers and legal representatives. The company was founded in 2001 by Ms. Rajkumar, who identified a need at the time for a "more professional, higher quality and more timely service" in the provision of medical assessments.

Ms. Rajkumar is a member of the highly regarded international Women President's Organization, Prestige Member of the Toronto Board of Trade, a Corporate Member of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Richmond Hill Chamber of Commerce.
