Manulife-Sinochem Expands Again in China with two new licenses

TORONTO, March 4 2010 - Manulife-Sinochem (MSL) announced that it has been granted two new licenses from the China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC) to operate in Linyi, a city of 10 million people in Shandong province and Yancheng, with 8 million people in Jiangsu province. The new licenses bring MSL's total to 41 - creating one of the largest insurance foreign-invested joint venture networks in China.

Linyi, the largest city in Shandong, maintained high economic development throughout the financial crisis, increasing its gross domestic product (GDP) by 18% in 2008 over 2007. Insurance premium income in the city was RMB 3317 million (USD 487.8 million) in 2008, 46.8% higher than the previous year.(1)

Yancheng, in central Jiangsu, is the province's second largest city. The province's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2008 was RMB 162.3 billion (USD 23.8 billion), an increase of 13% from the previous year while premium income in 2008 reaching RMB 3.71 billion (USD 543 million), an increase of nearly 40% over the previous year.(2)

Manulife-Sinochem obtient deux nouveaux permis et intensifie de nouveau sa présence en Chine

TORONTO, le 4 mars 2010 - Manulife-Sinochem (MSL) a annoncé que la China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC) lui a accordé deux nouveaux permis d'exploitation : l'un pour Linyi, ville de 10 millions d'habitants de la province de Shandong et l'autre pour Yancheng, ville de 8 millions d'habitants de la province de Jiangsu. MSL détient maintenant 41 permis au total et possède donc l'un des plus réseaux les plus étendus de Chine parmi les coentreprises d'assurance étrangères.

"Nous sommes très heureux de pouvoir ouvrir de nouveaux bureaux des ventes à Yancheng et à Linyi et nous nous réjouissons à l'idée d'y offrir les produits d'assurance de qualité et l'excellent service qui font la renommée de Manulife-Sinochem", a indiqué Marc Sterling, président du conseil de Manulife-Sinochem.

Métropole de la province de Shandong, Linyi a connu un essor économique vigoureux tout au long de la crise financière et a vu son produit intérieur brut progresser de 18 % entre 2007 et 2008. Le revenu de primes d'assurance dans la ville se chiffrait à 3 317 millions de yuan (487,8 millions de dollars américains) en 2008, soit une augmentation de 46,8 % par rapport à l'année précédente.(1)

Yancheng, située au centre du Jiangsu, est la deuxième ville en importance de cette province. Le produit intérieur brut provincial s'élevait à 162,3 milliards de yuan en 2008 (23,8 milliards de dollars américains), soit une augmentation de 13 % par rapport à l'année précédente. Le revenu de primes a quant à lui atteint 3,71 milliards de yuan (543 millions de dollars américains) en 2008, soit une augmentation de près de 40 % par rapport à l'année précédente.(2)
